Rev. Emily Farnell is delighted to serve as Pastor of Hereford Faith and Life Church. Pastor Emily is a provisional Elder in the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and is passionate about preaching, teaching, and walking with folks through the ups and downs of life.
Prior to accepting her call to ministry, Pastor Emily worked for nearly a decade in the federal government in rural North Carolina and in Washington, DC. During this time, her lay ministry included serving as an altar guild member, confirmation mentor, and a member of the Chancel Choir. Pastor Emily has also served the wider United Methodist Church as a delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conference and as a member of the Board of Directors for the General Board of Church and Society.
Pastor Emily received her B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an M.A. in Government from Georgetown University, and her M.Div. from Yale Divinity School, with a certificate in Methodist Studies. Outside of ministry life, Pastor Emily is an unabashed musical theater nerd, zealous UNC basketball fan, gym rat, coffee lover, and is the proud aunt of Addison and Riley.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come,
nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God
in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:38-39

“Let the teaching of Christ live in you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and instruct each other
by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

Barbara Lindsay Schroyer, TWO BY TWO Preschool Director

Barbara, Steven and their 3 children joined Hereford UMC in 1995. One Sunday morning the Pastor preached about future paths for Community service. It was then that the Lord planted a seed in Barbara’s heart for a Preschool; and in September 2000, TWO BY TWO opened its doors to 26 children. Today we have grown into a very special Preschool filled with love and laughter, 50 children and 11 staff members. The Lord has given us a place of acceptance, grace and joy.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them!
For the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
Matthew 19:14
